👁️ Veterinary Ophthalmology in Clinic

Ojo Veterinario provides specialised ophthalmology consultations for pets across the Costa del Sol. Our visiting veterinary ophthalmologist works closely with local partner clinics to diagnose and treat complex eye conditions in dogs and cats — using advanced equipment and years of clinical experience.

If your regular vet suspects an eye problem, we can see your pet directly at their clinic, ensuring continuity of care and clear communication between professionals. This collaborative model allows every patient to benefit from specialist-level diagnostics without the need to travel far.

We handle a wide range of eye problems — from corneal ulcers, cataracts, uveitis, and retinal diseases to sudden blindness and neuro-ophthalmic disorders. Each case is examined with precision equipment such as a slit lamp biomicroscope, indirect ophthalmoscope, and tonometer for intraocular pressure.

Our surgeon is an experienced veterinary ophthalmologist who has attended international congresses and collaborated with referral hospitals. You can trust that your pet will receive the same level of expertise found in top referral centres.

👉 Ask your vet to refer your case to Ojo Veterinario or contact us for more information.

💬 Frequently Asked Questions – Ophthalmology Consultations

How does the referral system work?

Your regular vet can contact us directly to schedule an appointment at their clinic. Once we’ve seen your pet, a full report and treatment plan are sent back to your vet for follow-up care.

Can I book directly as a pet owner?

In most cases, consultations are arranged through your veterinary clinic, ensuring your vet remains involved in your pet’s ongoing care. In exceptional cases, we may offer direct advice or referral guidance.

What equipment do you use during an eye exam?

We use specialised ophthalmic instruments including a slit lamp, indirect ophthalmoscope, and tonometer — similar to those used in human ophthalmology.

How much does a consultation cost?

Prices are determined by the clinic hosting the consultation, but a specialist visit typically starts from €150 for a first examination and €100 for rechecks.

🐾 Routine Veterinary Care, Vaccinations & Nutrition

At Ojo Veterinario, we provide routine veterinary care for dogs and cats across the Costa del Sol — from annual vaccinations and parasite control to pet nutrition advice. Whether you’ve just moved to Spain with your pet or are a long-term resident, our English-speaking vet can guide you through everything your pet needs to stay healthy and protected.

💉 Vaccinations & Pet Passports

Vaccinations are essential to keep your pet safe from diseases such as rabies, parvovirus, distemper and leptospirosis. We can update or review your pet’s vaccination schedule and make sure your pet passport or EU Animal Health Certificate is valid for travel or relocation.

Tip: Keep in mind that rabies vaccination is legally required in Andalusia for both dogs and cats.

🦟 Leishmaniasis Prevention

Leishmaniasis is common in southern Spain and can be life-threatening if left untreated. We offer advice on effective prevention methods, including vaccines, insect repellents and collars, and sandfly control at home. Regular check-ups and blood testing are recommended for pets living in the region year-round.

Our goal is to help you find high-quality, science-based pet food that fits your pet’s needs, whether therapeutic or maintenance. (Home delivery of specialised foods may be available upon request.)
